The Delhi High Court decision to suspend the sentence of convict and ex BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar pending appeal has come under severe criticism.

Sengar was convicted of rape of a 16-year-old girl in Unnao in 2017 and is allegedly linked to a series of crimes and including the custodial murder of the survivor's father and the shocking 'accidental' death of her aunt.

The logic of the Court to suspend Sengar’s sentence pending appeal has been severely criticised. The rape survivor and her mother have publicly expressed threat to life, stating that Sengar being freed would endanger their family despite the Court’s decision to prohibit the political strongman from coming within 5kms of the survivor. The Survivor herself has sat at the India Gate in New Delhi in protest, taking her fight for justice to the streets of India’s national capital.

This petition is by Indians who believe that rapists, irrespective of their clout, are meant to be behind bars, and don’t deserve any leeway despite pendency of appeal. If you believe that Sengar should not be released and should not have his sentence suspended pending appeal, sign the petition.
